The Royal Melbourne Hospital and Western Hospital (RMH/WH) Clinical Departments Cluster combines projects from the University of Melbourne's Departments of Medicine, Surgery, Radiology, Psychiatry, and Obstetrics & Gynaecology (Royal Women's Hospital), including projects from affiliated institutes such as the Ludwig Institute for Cancer Research, Walter and Eliza Hall Institute of Medical Research (WEHI), National Ageing Research Institute (NARI), The Burnet Institute-Centre for Population Health, and Peter MacCallum Institute.

The University of Melbourne/Western Hospital is conducting a research study investigating the effects of a new 12 month community exercise and lifestyle program aimed at increasing bone density, muscle function and reducing falls risk. The study includes free supervised exercise sessions in the western suburbs, vitamin D and calcium supplements and bone density testing.
