Doing a Doctor of Medicine (MD) with the Department of Medicine (RMH/WH)

We offer the degree of Doctor of Medicine to medical graduates as either a supervised research program or via non-attending candidature. Candidates must be medical graduates of not less than two years standing on entering the course.

Research Program

This is a two year full-time or four to five year part-time course. A supervised research program is undertaken in a relevant field of research and a thesis is submitted at the end of the supervised period of research.

Non-Attending Candidature

Non-attending candidature of six months is available to University of Melbourne medical graduates who have already completed their research and wish to prepare a compilation of published work to be used as a basis for the award of the degree. Approval to enrol as a non-attending student is only for the purpose of preparing the compilation of published work with the assistance of an approved advisor.
