University of Melbourne, Department of Medicine (RMH/WH) PhD Student "Nick Christopher" Scholarship Guidelines 2010

Two ‘Nick Christopher Scholarships’ are offered the best ranked PhD students commencing their study in 2010 at the Department of Medicine (RMH/WH). Eligibility for the scholarships include

Students obtaining any of these scholarships and meeting eligibility criteria will be invited by mail to submit an application to the Department of Medicine (RMH/WH) in Jan 2010. Excluding academic transcripts, applications are to be no more that five pages in total. The complete application (and selection criteria) include:

Students wishing to enrol full-time for a PhD in the Department are encouraged to apply for scholarships, including the Australian Postgraduate Awards (APA) and Melbourne Research Scholarships (MRS), through the University of Melbourne. The Faculty of Medicine, Dentistry and Health Sciences also offers a limited number of postgraduate scholarships.A range of scholarships for PhD study is also offered by the following organisations:

Individual groups may provide additional top-up funding for PhD students who obtain externally funded PhD Scholarships.  Please contact the heads of groups for further information.

Student Travel Grants

$500 per year (cumulative, max. $1500) allocated by Department for each full-time PhD student to attend an approved national or international conference.

The Larkins Prize for the Best BSc(Hons) Student

The department established the prize to honour the contribution of Professor Richard Larkins, who held the position of James Stewart Professor of Medicine and Head of Department from 1984 to 1997. The Larkins Prize (of approximately $1000) is awarded to the student achieving the highest results for the fourth year Bachelor of Science Honours course in the Department of Medicine (RMH/WH); students are nominated by the Head of Department.
