- We offer a wide variety of biomedical research ranging from molecular biology to clinical epidemiological research. PhD projects are also undertaken in affiliated research units working on such diverse areas as critical care and rehabilitation medicine.
- Our students are supported by 13 senior academic staff members and 20 post-doctoral fellows, as well as a large number of academic associates.
- We are located close to related departments and institutions enabling us to offer collaborative projects and to attend their seminar programs.
- The Department of Medicine Students Association (DOMSA) is affiliated with UMPA and other external students associations. The Department is committed to supporting and encouraging DOMSA.
Resources available to postgraduate research students
- $500 per year (cumulative, max. $1500) allocated by Department for each full-time PhD student to attend an approved national or international conference.
- Dedicated postgraduate computer lab. with computers shared by particular students.
- Dial-in Internet access; direct dial telephones to all labs and offices.
- Available software: Microsoft Office, Netscape, Endnote, Minitab, Stata, Photoshop, Corel Draw, SPSS.
- All technical support is provided at laboratory level, with adequate student access to this support monitored throughout their candidature.
- Photocopying and printing available for student use.
- Individual desks and lockers; 24-hour access to the Department through key/swipe card.
- Inter-library loans cost supported by Department.
